  • Drive equipment on - it's basically flat, no climbing

  • Drive to the front of the deck and stop

  • Deactivate tilt - deck levels back to transport position

  • Secure the equipment with chains or straps

  • You're ready to roll

Frequently Asked Questions - Tilt-Deckover

What's the difference between a tilt deck and a deckover trailer?

A tilt deck has a hydraulic system that tilts the entire deck down to ground level for easy loading - no ramps needed. A deckover trailer has the deck positioned above the wheels (instead of between them), giving you a wider, flat surface. Our 16' tilt deck offers the highest capacity (11,300 lbs) with tilt function, while the 24' deckover provides extra length for larger equipment.

Can your tilt deck handle a full-size skid steer?

Yes! Our 16' tilt deck has an 11,300 lb capacity, which handles most skid steers including popular models like the Bobcat S650 (6,600 lbs), Cat 262D (8,000 lbs), and John Deere 320G (7,500 lbs). Check your specific machine's operating weight and add a safety margin - if it's under 10,000 lbs, you're good to go.

What size truck do I need to tow the equipment trailer?

For our equipment trailers, you need a heavy-duty truck. The 16' tilt deck requires at least a 3/4 ton (F-250/2500 class) with 12,000+ lb towing capacity. A 1-ton truck (F-350/3500) is recommended for heavy loads. You'll also need a 2 5/16" ball hitch (not 2"), 7-way electrical plug, and trailer brake controller.

How does the hydraulic tilt mechanism work?

The tilt system connects to your truck's 7-way electrical plug or uses an onboard hydraulic pump. When activated, hydraulic cylinders raise the front of the deck, tilting it until the rear edge meets the ground. Your equipment drives on flat - no climbing ramps. Deactivate the tilt, and the deck levels for transport. The whole process takes about 2 minutes.

Can I load equipment by myself, or do I need help?

One of the biggest advantages of a tilt deck is single-operator loading. Since there are no ramps to position and the equipment drives on flat, most operators load and unload without assistance. For extremely heavy or wide equipment, having a spotter is always a good idea, but it's not required.

What's the difference between your 11,300 lb tilt and U-Haul's equipment trailers?

Most U-Haul equipment trailers max out around 7,000 lbs and use traditional ramps. Our 16' tilt deck offers 11,300 lb capacity with hydraulic tilt loading - no ramps, no climbing. We also offer weekly rates for contractors and don't have the mileage fees that come with national rental chains. For serious equipment hauling, there's no comparison.

Can I haul a mini excavator on your tilt deck?

Absolutely! Mini excavators are one of our most common loads. Models like the Cat 303.5, Kubota KX040, and Bobcat E35 all fit easily on our 16' tilt deck with capacity to spare. For larger mini excavators approaching 10,000 lbs, check the specific weight and call us to confirm the best trailer option.

Do you offer weekly rates for contractors?

Yes! Weekly rates are $900/week for the 16' tilt deck and $1,200/week for the 24' deckover - significantly cheaper than daily rates for jobs lasting 5+ days. Many contractors rent from us week-to-week for projects throughout Contra Costa County. We can also discuss monthly arrangements for longer projects.

What's included with the equipment trailer rental?

The rental includes the trailer with hydraulic tilt system, all lighting and electrical connections, and tie-down points for securing equipment. We provide a walkthrough on operating the tilt mechanism. Chains or straps for securing equipment are not included - most contractors bring their own rated chains.

Can I haul equipment plus attachments or materials?

Yes, especially with the 24' deckover which gives you extra length. Many contractors haul a skid steer plus bucket attachments, or a mini excavator plus materials. Just stay within the weight capacity. The 24' deckover is great for hauling multiple pieces of equipment when you need them all on one job site.

How do I secure heavy equipment on the trailer?

Heavy equipment should be secured with rated chains at four points minimum. Chain binders (load binders) tighten the chains securely. Secure to the equipment's designated tie-down points - skid steers have loops on the frame, excavators have anchor points near the tracks. We can demonstrate proper securement techniques at pickup if needed.

Is there a weight limit for the tilt function?

The tilt function works regardless of load - empty or fully loaded to 11,300 lbs. The hydraulic system is

designed to handle the full rated capacity. Just make sure you're on level, stable ground when operating the tilt.

Avoid tilting on soft ground where the rear edge might dig in.
